To allow the vessel to be used with plants while retaining its chips and distortions, we drilled a drainage hole in the bottom and repurposed it as a plant pot. We’ve crafted it so that the plants planted by Araheam and the vessel blend together as a single landscape.

・Drainage hole included

・One-of-a-kind piece
・Individual variations exist (including chips and cracks)

Graptopetalum mendozae
“Himeshurei”

A succulent with small, clustered leaves that spread out in soft hues. Depending on the lighting, it may take on a faint pink tint. It is drought-tolerant and prefers a well-ventilated environment. One of its charms is that it naturally multiplies by producing new shoots from its elongated stems. Its light, spreading form harmonizes beautifully with the empty space in a pot.

■ Care Instructions

・Location
Prefers a sunny, well-ventilated spot.
It tends to become leggy when there is insufficient sunlight, so keep it in a bright location.

・Watering
During warm weather, water thoroughly only after the soil has dried out completely.
Water sparingly in winter.

・Temperature
Avoid high temperatures and humidity as well as extreme cold; aim to keep the temperature at 5°C or higher.

・Precautions
It is susceptible to damp conditions, so ensure good air circulation.
The leaves fall off easily, so handle with care.

■ About the Cups Used

This product uses non-standard cups—those that developed warping, unevenness, or small marks during firing—to “give them a new lease on life.”
We have given a new purpose to vessels that would otherwise have reached the end of their useful life.
You may notice warped shapes, marks from the firing process, small surface irregularities or spots, and uneven glaze.
We have selected only those that fully fulfill their function as planters.

About ONE KILN Reproduction

In ceramics, you never know what will happen until you remove the pieces from the kiln.
Drying, glazing, and the shrinkage of the clay—numerous factors interplay, often producing results that differ from what was intended.
Among these, there are pieces that were never used.
A slight warp. An uneven glaze. Or perhaps a crack.
Items that would normally never have seen the light of day remain in the studio.
I simply couldn’t bring myself to throw them away.
Toward the end of 2023, while preparing for the ash Design & Craft Fair, a new direction began to take shape.
To re-select the items that had never been used.
“Reproduction” isn’t about restoring the pieces to their original state.
Rather than aiming for perfection, it’s an attempt to bring them back into daily life in a different form.
Kintsugi. Scented candles. Grinding shards in a pot mill. Or drilling holes to plant greenery.
Even if they’re unfinished, we continue to use them and keep exploring our relationship with them.
As they’re used, their meaning gradually shifts.
