From the new project “ULTRA LOYALTIES” by Toru Tachizawa
ULTRA LOYALTIES by ONE KILN
“The purpose of a water pitcher lies in the empty space into which water can be poured, and has nothing to do with its shape or the product itself.”
That may well be true.
Yet people are drawn to its shape and brand. Humans are a troublesome lot.
If we remain fixated only on what is visible, both customers and artists will end up with minds that are rigid and closed off.
“Those who can empty themselves and allow others to enter freely will be able to act freely in any situation.”
— From *The Book of Tea* by Kakuzo Okakura
So people are vessels, too.

About CULTIVATE
Bonotsu is located at the southwesternmost tip of the Satsuma Peninsula. In this region, with its mild climate and beautiful ocean views, the soil is enriched by mountain spring water and sea breezes. Using Bonotsu clay and Amakusa porcelain stone from Kumamoto as a base, we create pottery with a uniform and simple design that brings out the unique characteristics of each material. These pieces are practical for everyday use, combining the strength characteristic of porcelain with the natural texture and warmth characteristic of earthenware. This series was born from a desire to directly convey the unique character of the local clay and the culture of the region. The bottom of each piece is stamped with the latitude and longitude of the excavation site and the proportions of the blended clays.

*Since each piece is handmade, the color, texture, and shape of each piece will vary slightly.
